LOS ANGELES — And the winner is, Billy Ray. Mr. Ray won a run-off election, to join Phil Alden Robinson and Robin Swicord in representing screenwriters on the 51-member governing board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization said on Thursday.
Mr. Ray, whose screen credits include “Captain Phillips” and “The Hunger Games,” had earlier tied with Larry Karaszewski (“Big Eyes” and “1408”). The Academy’s governors serve staggered three-year terms, with a third of the board up for election each year. The group said the vote resulted in a tie only once before, in 2009, in its directors branch.
