Bikes and BeerThe Oregon-based tour company Beercycling has expanded its geographical reach beyond Belgium and the Netherlands to tap into Italy’s growing craft beer scene. Its new Seven Day Italian Passion Tour debuts April 19, with a second departure on Oct. 4 and will visit at least five of the country’s breweries.
The tour starts in Milan and ends in Rome, with much of the exploration in northern Italy. Travel is by bike and high-speed rail, with a combination of scenic cycling, dining, culture and beer tasting, for a total of 155 miles on mostly flat terrain. Stops include Terminal 1 in Codogno, the official tasting room of Brewfist, where visitors sample beer paired with food; and the Tre Fontane Abbey in Rome, the most recent Trappist-designated brewery, open since May.
The price, $2,300, includes six nights’ lodging, bike rental, support vehicle, tastings and some meals. Guests who register before Dec. 31 receive a $200 discount.
