Cooking classes, scavenger hunts and educational games are designed for children.

Adults might find organized city tours interesting and informative, but for children they can be yawn inducing. Fortunately, for hard-to-please young travelers, companies are creating interactive and entertaining versions for those between the ages of 6 and 12.

IC Bellagio in Italy has a six-hour tour of Rome with activities like a gelato-making class, a scavenger hunt of monuments and fountains and a visit to the Colosseum, where children can dress up as gladiators and take a sword fighting lesson. From 1,800 euros (about $1,970 at $1.08 to the euro) for four people.

Paris Muse offers a two-hour Discovery Walk for Families in the Marais neighborhood, where children use compasses to trace the footsteps of Victor Hugo to monuments featured in his novels and engage in games like finding masons’ marks on a medieval rampart in St.-Paul. The price is 270 euros for up to five people.

In London there is a four-hour excursion from NoteWorthy to Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace, where youngsters learn history through adventure stories and get a behind-the-scenes look at the famous guard-changing ceremony (they visit the barracks to take pictures with the guards as they prepare for the procession). From £800 ($1,248 at $1.56 to the pound) for four people.

The three-hour Learning and Fun experience in Manhattan from NYC Kids Tours includes a scavenger hunt in Central Park to find wildlife and visits to Dylan’s Candy Bar and a Broadway theater. From $399 for two people.

India is also part of the mix: Our Personal Guest has introduced a six-hour journey through Old and New Delhi with a rickshaw ride, a visit to a temple to learn about the city’s religious diversity, a class on making naan bread and a Bollywood show at the Kingdom of Dreams theater. From $800 for two people.

These excursions creatively teach young travelers about the destination, said Jack Ezon, who owns Ovation Vacations, a New York travel consultancy.

“These are exciting ways to learn,” he said.
