Amanda Peterson, Actress Who Starred in ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ Dies at 43

Amanda Peterson, a film and television actress who was best known for her role in the 1987 romantic comedy “Can’t Buy Me Love,” was found dead on Sunday in her home in Greeley, Colo. She was 43.

Sgt. Mike Moran of the Greeley police said that Ms. Peterson was alone when her body was found and that an investigation was underway. No other information was released.

Ms. Peterson was born on July 8, 1971, in Greeley. She began her film career when she was 9 in the 1982 adaptation of the hit musical “Annie,” directed by John Huston.

She appeared in numerous movies and television shows over the next decade, including the 1985 comedy “Explorers.” Her biggest role was opposite Patrick Dempsey in “Can’t Buy Me Love,” in which she played a cheerleader whom Mr. Dempsey’s character paid to pose as his girlfriend.

Ms. Peterson’s last film, “Windrunner,” was released in 1994.
